Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my doctor before I can see a physical therapist?

Yes, in some cases. Although we have Direct Access* in Maryland, your medical insurance plan may require a referral from your doctor prior to starting physical therapy. We will need your insurance information to verify your benefits and requirements prior to starting your therapy. If a referral is required, we will let you know.

If your insurance doesn't require a referral, you have the opportunity to start therapy sooner which will enable you to start feeling better that much faster. Starting sooner will mean less pain, a more rapid recovery and return to your normal life more quickly. It may be wise however, to visit your doctor first if your condition is the result of trauma, like a fall or an impact. X-rays or additional testing may be required to rule out a more serious injury. *Direct Access gives patients the potential to start their physical therapy treatment prior to having a referral from their physician. After therapy is started however, a referral from the physician is required.

Where can I park?

We have ample parking in front of the clinic. Parking is free.

Can I take the bus to GPT ?

Yes, we are right on the MTA, and Metro line. We are between Park Ave and Linden if going to the North Ave Office and on Whitehead Court at the Security Office.

What do I need to bring with me?

Make sure you bring your physical therapy referral (provided to you by your doctor) and your payment information. If your insurance is covering the cost of physical therapy, bring your insurance card. If you are covered by Workers' Compensation, bring your claim number and your case manager's contact information. If you are covered by auto insurance or an attorney lien, make sure you bring this information.

How long will each treatment last?

Treatment sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes per visit.

Why is physical therapy a good choice?

More than half of all Americans are suffering from pain. Whether it is a recent episode or chronic, an ABC News/Stanford study revealed that pain in America is a serious problem. However, many do not even know that physical therapists are well equipped to not only treat pain but also its source. Physical therapists are experts at treating movement and neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. Pain often accompanies a movement disorder, and physical therapists can help correct the disorder and relieve the pain.
